Description

Modifies purple aleurone and plant color to pale or reddish brown; anthers yellow-fluorescent; allele bz1-m4 = sh1-bz1-m4; SSR phi017. Bronze aleurone, brown plant (with B1, Pl1). Modifies purple aleurone and plant color to pale or reddish brown; anthers yellow-fluorescent. Expressed in all tissues competent to form anthocyanins. Mutant plants with B1, Pl1 are sometimes reduced in height, and are brittle, necrotic and variably sterile. Encodes enzyme UDPG-flavonol 3-0-glucosyl transferase (Larson and Coe 1977 Biochem Genet 15:153). Regulated by vp1, c1, and r1 (Dooner and Nelson 1979 Genetics 91:309). Transposon mutants: Ac (McClintock 1955; Fedoroff et al. 1984); Ds (McClintock 1951, 1956, 1962; Schiefelbein et al. 1985a,b; Dooner et al. 1986; Schiefelbein et al. 1988a; Klein et al. 1988); dSpm (Nelson and Klein 1984); Mu1 (Taylor et al. 1986; Brown et al. 1989); Mut (Rhoades and Dempsey 1982). Genetic fine structure (Dooner 1986). Orientation of molecular map in 9S (Dooner et al. 1985). Molecular clone (Fedoroff et al. 1984). Nucleotide sequence (Ralston et al. 1988; Furtek et al. 1988). Deletion of entire gene: sh1-bz1-x2, sh1-bz1-x2 (Mottinger 1973; Dooner et al. 1985). Internal deletions: bz1-R (Ralston et al. 1987); bz1-s:2114(Ac) (Dooner et al. 1988). Allele bz1-m4 = sh1-bz1-m4. (H. Dooner) Found in Hy inbred, by M. T. Jenkins (Rhoades 1952). Agr#(bz1), bnl#(bz1)(pMBzPa). p-pBz1 is used to probe umc192(bz1). Cold results in a 8-fold accumulation of transcript(Christie 1994). This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
