Stepwise Instructions

Please follow the box number as shown on the slides and matching instruction number from the following list.


  1. Home: Clicking on this link will always bring you back to the PlantGeneWiki home page.
  2. Guided Tour/Tutorials: First time users and returning users (including contributors) are encouraged to view the tutorials. Clicking on this link will open up a help page with links to the tutorials.
  3. Contribute section: This section provides information on how you can contribute to this community resource. We value our scientists, educators and students and therefore encourage you to participate by making useful intellectual contributions.
  4. Membership: Now since you are willing to contribute your intellectual inputs and expert knowledge about plant gene(s), please follow the link and instructions provided on the membership page. Since we want to recognize your contribution, we ask you to register and log in before adding your inputs. Every Edit/addition made by you to PlantGenewiki cites your contribution. remember its an instant publication :-).

  10. Gene Name: This is a quick link to start browsing by Gene Name. The link will open up a new page with list of genes sorted in numerical/alphabetical order of their gene symbol.
  11. Plant Species: This is a quick link to start browsing by Plant Species name. The link will open up a new page with list of species sorted in alphabetical order and link to all genes listed in PlantGeneWiki for respective species.
  12. Gene Type: This is a quick link to start browsing by Gene Type. The link will open up a new page with list of Gene Types sorted in alphabetical order of their gene symbol and link to all genes listed in PlantGeneWiki for respective gene type.
  13. Help: The link will open a web page with a list of help documents
  14. membership: A quick link to the membership page. The page provides instructions on how to log in and/or create a new account.
  15. Printable version: Visit any of the pages you wish to browse and click on this link to get a printable version. The displayed views will remove the navigation links and sections from bottom, left side and top of the pages for a convenient print versions. Note: This link will not initiate your printer to print the page. You will be required to use the print command on your web browser window.

  17. Plant genomes: This section provides link to a page about plat genome. The page provides a list of sequenced and about to be sequenced plant genomes along with the online resource links.
  18. Plant gene nomenclature: This section provides link to a page about plat gene nomenclature. The page provides a list of species wide online gene nomenclature reports, guidelines and registration resource links. It is a every gene we add to the PlantGeneWiki have a registered gene name and symbol and meets the nomenclature standards for a given species.

  21. Search results: Provides a summary of the such you just performed and the matches found.
  22. Search matches found: Provides a list of pages in the PlantGeneWiki resource that have matched the query.
  23. Gene tab: On the gene page the 'Gene' tab provides information on its full gene name, gene symbol, synonym(s), gene type, description, phenotype (yes/no), and many more details.

  25. CMAP tab: On the gene page the 'CMAP' tab provides details on the the map location of the respective gene on different maps (genetic, physical, genome, etc).

  27. Cross references tab: On the gene page the 'Cross references' tab provides a list of databases and online resources that also provide information on the respective gene.
